Emails and letters

UPDATE June 25th, 2020: We received an email from the co-worker sharing some information that she was very excited about. She asked us to publish an update on the federal trial of her former friend. A hearing took place on June 15th, 2020 where he plead guilty to two federal charges, in exchange for a reduced sentence. He received a four year incarceration term. She asked us to include the following quote: “Justice is served!”

UPDATE: A trial date of June 15th, 2020 has been set for the pending federal trial and investigation that is separate from this news story. The co-worker has stated that the desired outcome of that trial is the exoneration of Mr Fuentez for any suspicion of wrong-doing and the conviction of the former friend on all charges.

We have not reported on any of the developments in that case.  At this time, it is unclear if we will publish to this site regarding this trial after speaking with federal investigators and asking for press comment.  We have been advised that no information will be released to the public or the press regarding this federal trial and we have been requested not to publish any information about this federal trial at this time.

FIRST RELEASE:

“Emails and Letters” will be published in a 2 part series. We have received the emails from the co-worker and redacted those emails for publishing, but not the letters. She has expressed concern that the letters were written for no one else but Gilbert Fuentez and does not want them seen by anyone but him. She expressed that, if he also agreed to share those letters with us that contain personal, intimate thoughts and feelings, that she would agree to release them to us as well.

Part 1

Part 2

On March 8th, 2020, Gilbert Fuentez reached out to us and let us know he had emails and handwritten letters in his possession that would “contradict everything that was published on our site”. We responded to him and asked if he would share those with us. He has not responded.

We have reached out to the co-worker and she has provided us with those emails. We intend to publish those to this site.

However, due to a pending federal trial with another individual mentioned in these emails and letters, we will temporarily publish redacted versions of these documents. (UPDATED May 18th, 2020)

Once that trial concludes, we hope to be able to publish these documents in full, and any other information we are allowed to publish that has been discovered about other individuals during the investigation, INCLUDING Gilbert Fuentez, that does not interfere with other on-going federal investigations currently in process.

At Briggs, we believe in the power of the people to make informed choices about the situations and individuals that affect them through the unalienable rights of free speech and press, especially in matters of public safety.
